Deb VanMatre, General Manager of the Nebraska Turkey Growers Cooperative in Gibbon, and
President of the Nebraska Turkey Federation, accepts a proclamation from Governor Mike
Johanns. Governor Johanns signed the proclamation proclaiming June Is Turkey Lovers' Month
in
Nebraska on May 18, 2004, during an industry-sponsored luncheon at the Governor's Mansion in
Lincoln for the Governor, state senators, representatives of the Nebraska Department of
Agriculture, and turkey producers.
In recognition of the Governor's support for the Nebraska turkey industry, Deb VanMatre,
General Manager of the Nebraska Turkey Growers Association in Gibbon, and President of the
Nebraska Turkey Federation, presented Governor Mike Johanns with a mug featuring
the new promotion message from the National Turkey Federation; "Turkey, the perfect protein".
VanMatre also presented the Governor with a gift certificate to Wilderness Ridge Restaurant in
Lincoln highlighting a turkey entrée on their menu. In 2003, more than 4 million turkeys
were produced in Nebraska, with cash receipts from turkey totaling more than $33 million.
